x25by8 Get Together

Got together with former officemates from 25by8 for our annual Christmas get together yesterday at Jay-j’s, Ortigas HomeDepot. It was one of the bigger gatherings. As usual the girls gravitated towards each other and started talking about marriage, babies, and other such girlie things. And as usual the boys gravitated towards each other and started talking about computer games and programming languages and other such geeky things. Haha. 25by8 people sure are a swell bunch. Wish I could replicate that in my current company.

Makati Standoff

Today, Trillanes walked out of his court hearing, walked around Makati, then decided to check-in to the Manila Peninsula. What the hell was he thinking?!? Or is he thinking at all? Does he and his cohorts think they are the only one who cares about this country? Does he think their approach is the only one that will work? It’s quite obviously no to both questions.

But here’s something that might just work: Go take on Malacanang and the Presidential Security Group. The question is does he have the balls for that kind of action? Or are is he too pampered that he can only execute his grandiose schemes from within the suites of high-end hotels. Apparently it is the latter since this is the second hotel he has taken over. And he doesn’t even pay his bills.

Well now, instead of a suite, he can plan from within a prison cell his obsession of taking over freeing the Philippines from the clutches of GMA . Now if only the military can take care of his rumored abusive behavior while in prison and treat him as the criminal that he is. Now that would be justice served. It’s a pity though that it’s us taxpayers paying for his board and lodging.

He could, of course, very well be right about GMA and her administration. It is definitely corrupt and probably illegitimate. They are also so paranoid and comes down ruthlessly and quickly on any sign of dissent even declaring states of emergencies and curfews on whim. Makes you wonder if it isn’t already de-facto martial law.

As an aside, the press, who should just have ignored Trillanes’ megalomanic antics, was in full force during the whole affair. As usual it’s supposedly for bringing information to everyone aka the the pursuit of a scoop. But did he have anything new to say? No. He just used their camera flashes and spotlights to bask in his imagined glory. And they just served as his unwitting human shields. Serves them right getting cuffed, hustled on a bus, and shipped to Camp Bagong Diwa for processing. That is the procedure for any hostage situation anyway.

Every day certainly is an interesting day.

House Of Representatives Blast

I just arrived home last night when I learned from Izza about a blast at the House of Representatives. I immediately checked The Inquirer and realized something is really up because but it was not responding, probably overloaded with requests. Fortunately, ABS-CBN was and I was able to confirm that there was indeed a blast. The report said that the vehicle of Wahab Akbar, a representative, was on fire and that he was among the injured and later died. Although some grandstanding politican (coughdeveneciacough) immediately claimed it was a terrorist attack, I wouldn’t be surprised if Akbar was the specific target. He has too way many enemies from political rivals to the Abu Sayyaf who has been using bombs more and more. Supposedly he used to be a member of the Abu Sayaff but later left and turned on them. Heck, even the Philippine Marines could be counted among those. There was this rumor before that his men were involved in an ambush a few months back where 14 marines were killed, some of whom were mutilated, and beheaded. Knowing the loyalty of the marines to their comrades, this possibility wouldn’t be far off.

Stupid People

Sometimes you get to thinking most– it not all– people are mature, responsible, considerate, thinking… If ever they’re not, they would just be a little bit off and it’s still okay. And then you encounter some people who are completely off, people so damn immature, irresponsible, inconsiderate, and STUPID!

This morning, my neighbor left his house but left his car blocking the driveway. I couldn’t drive out and we had to take another car. When I got back, I talked to him about it and he didn’t even apologize. He even had the gall to imply that I should have moved his car out of the way. I would have if I could. But to imply that it’s my responsibility? WTF!

Globe Crap

I’ve been receiving these SMS messages from Globe on my phone updating me on my account status. It would have been good to receive it once a month, maybe weekly. But I’m receiving it daily and it was becoming irritating. So one fine day when I was in a foul mood (oh, that would be today), I replied with STOP (there was no instruction on the messages themselves on how to stop receiving them). That didn’t do it so I called up 211, the Globe customer service line to ask that it be disconnected. I told the CSR my predicament. She told me to reply with UNSUBSCRIBE. I was surprised since they should be able to do that on their side. So I asked (nicely) if she can do that. She said they cannot, that they don’t have the capability to subscribe or unsubscribe customers to the service. Then she insinuated that I was the one who subscribed to the service. I took issue with that and I told her so (not so nicely anymore). Eventually she said it can be done, but will take 24 to 48 hours!!! She said it’s because they’re going to manually. What are they gonna do? Solder out some chips or something?!? But anyway, I told her to go do it. At least that’ll give me a reason to call and shout at them if it’s not done in 48 hours. I already have issues with Globe and if they continue like this I just would have to go elsewhere. Grrr.

UPDATE: I was still receiving the messages so I tried UNSUBSCRIBE. It didn’t work! I called Globe again and this time I was answered by someone who was friendly and helpful. So no I didn’t shout at her. She said she will unsubscribe me (yes, apparently they can do that) and the next day there were no more messages. If only every CSR is like her.
