2008 October 19 Paintball at Global Gutz, Army Adventure Zone, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig

Played paintball at Fort Bonifacio. There are actually two fields in Fort Bonifacio: a skirmish/scenario field at the Army Gym and a speedball field at the Army Adventure Zone. We went to the latter. We were supposed to start playing at 9 but arrived at 9:30, started playing at 12, and ended at 2. I don’t know why we always end up starting late when it comes to paintball. It’s so irritating.

There was supposed to be ten of us but for some reason, the other team got horribly lost or something so there was just five of us. We teamed up two (Ian and Edong) versus three (James, Michelle, and I). Needless to say, numbers carried the day but there was a match or two when they actually won.

After months without playing, I can say paintball is still quite fun. It’s too bad that it’s kind of dying due to the rapid spread of airsoft. Even the owner of the field has caved in and opened an airsoft field. Would have been nice to switch (back) but the problem with airsoft, and one of the reasons I quit, is the honesty, or the general lack of it, of the ever increasing number of so-called airsoft players. This has led to a race in the amount of pellets you can carry and the power of your gun. That plus the emphasis on form over function. Not at all good.

Making Money From Airsoft

Crissy told me about the PNP now requiring the registration of airsoft rifles and pistols at a cost similar to that of real firearms. So now if you don’t register you can suddenly become a criminal for possession of a toy! Funny since, airguns below .22 caliber don’t even need to be registered. And to think they can’t yet resolve the proliferation of loose (unregistered) firearms that are mainly in the hand of unlawful elements. Talk about money-making schemes. The irony is that the idea was hatched by a brilliant airsoft-playing lawyer (aren’t they all?). Paintball markers aren’t yet covered. But I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before some greedy bureaucrat sees the opportunity.

Department Christmas Party

Yesterday, we had our Department Christmas party. We first went to Global Gutz for paintball. It was tough going there because of the horrific traffic. But we all eventually got there and Sir Sonny himself briefed us. We then played 2 rounds of capture the flag and 2 rounds of speedball. It was tiring but fun especially since I racked up 3 or 4 kills. It helped that everyone else were newbies >:)

After playing, we went to Marina, a nearby restaurant where we had a late dinner, an exchange of gifts, and a raffle. I got a 7-piece pitcher and glass set in the gift exchange but didn’t win anything in the raffle :P

After dinner, we proceeded to Malate. It’s my first time at Malate and I hated it. It’s like SM malls on a 3-day sale weekend except instead of shopping, the people were out to dance and drink. Maybe to eat too though there certainly are better places with better food to eat in. Maybe also to be seen but I can’t figure out how you could be seen in that crowd or why you would like to be associated with them.

I’ve decided not to drink and without the benefit of an alcohol-induced haze, I came to the conclusion that the whole damn thing is mindless. At one point, people started cheering when they heard the first few bars of Teriyaki Boyz’s Tokyo Drift. It’s actually something they always do before they start bouncing around to any overly-played bouncy song. Mindless.

Without anything better to do, I went off to sulk at a corner table and drank coffee till it was time to go.

I’m so not fun. Haha.

2007 October 14 Paintball at Global Gutz, La Mesa Ecopark, QC

IMGP2474This morning Edong suddenly called up and said paintball was going to push through even though half of the attendees have backed out. Apparently, he had committed to the owner of paintball field who just happens to also be his godfather. So off the four of us remaining players went to the field, a newly opened one within the La Mesa Ecopark.

We played a total of only five games. Each game lasted only about 10 minutes tops but the adrenaline rush made it quite exhausting. There is definitely a rush because I didn’t want to get hit. But majorly hit I got. Three times! First with a stinging hit on the top of my head that made my eyes water. Second on the knuckle of my pinkie that made my hand shake. And finally, a stunning blow on the jaw that dazed me. All the more reason I don’t want to get hit next time around.

During a break from the game, we also tried out some new realistic looking paintball markers. In contrast to standard markers which look like plumbers’ or painters’ tools (they’re actually farmers’ and lumberjacks’ tools), these markers look like your standard military issue M4 complete with magazines instead of hoppers. Of course, they just are not as realistic looking as airsoft guns. But a lot of people (mil sim fans) do not like paintball because of the look of the markers. This could just changed the minds of some of them.
