Nokia N8 First Impression

Had the chance to play around with a Nokia N8 display unit. Build is very good. The body is mainly made of anodized aluminum. It’s not stainless steel but it’s reasonably tough. The display is covered with Gorilla glass so it should also be tough. Even the plastic ends and port covers seems to be of a durable material. No flimsy rubber here like that on the E51. It comes in many colors but no black. Only a watered down dark gray.

The camera is great. The main selling point of the N series has always been the camera and it doesn’t disappoint. The lens is Carl Zeiss and it has a Xenon flash. It is good for general purpose shots and even has macro. The shutter is a two-stage focus then shoot button. It also takes 720p video at 25fps. There’s supposedly a hack out there that makes this 30fps. The trade-off is that the camera module is quite big and significantly protrudes from the back.

Motolite Express Delivery

Your car out of battery? Thankfully, this usually happens in the parking and not in the middle of the road. This is exactly what happened to me this afternoon. Good thing there’s Motolite Express Delivery. Just dial 370-6686 and you can have a new battery delivered and installed in about an hour. I was able to pay by credit card, and even got a P300 credit for the trade-in value of the old battery. Running out of battery is inconvenient but less so with Motolite Express Delivery!

Productive Weekend

The thing I like about long weekends is I can do at a leisurely pace all the chores that had piled up and still have enough rest. Saturday I babysat Jeanne while Michelle was out shopping. When Michelle got back, Jeanne gave away candies to trick or treaters. Sunday I washed some dirty clothes but it was generally a rest day. We got started watching Fringe and I made pizza for lunch and baked macaroni for dinner. Monday I swam, washed some more dirty clothes, ironed the dry ones, mopped the floor, and washed the plates (one long weekend worth :D). We even had time to go to some get together with some of Michelle’s distant relatives and drop off the Suunto Observer at the shop for repairs. And there’s another long weekend coming. Awesome!

A Dismal State of Affairs

The Supreme Court absolving one of their own from a case of plagiarism. And even saw it fit to censure critics. Congress censuring a government official, no less, for a possibly imaginary insult of one of their own. The president is said to be standing by the government official. But then maybe he’s simply standing by for one of his own as he did before for another who in some places would have resigned, if not committed seppuko, already. The tops of the three branches of the government have shown their propriety or rather lack of it. It sure is a dismal state of affairs.
