Farewell My Suunto

My Suunto Observer‘s battery died about a week ago. I have replaced its battery three times before: 2003, 2006 (when I damaged the battery cover), and 2009 (when I got a Suunto battery replacement kit complete with new battery cover and opening tool). But this time, it won’t start up at all. Looks like it’s time to say goodbye. It’s been a good ride. I had taken it up mountains, underground into caves, and underwater. I even used it at the office. It wasn’t without problems, I had replaced the bracelet in 2005. And the pressure sensor gave up a few years ago. The sensor couldn’t be fixed short of replacing all the electronic internals. But it kept on “ticking” sans the barometer and altimeter. But all things must come to an end. What will remain are the good memories.

Big Toys for the Big Boys

I took Jeanne to the dentist this morning for a much-needed dental cleaning. Afterwards, we went to High Street. There is a Toys R Us branch there and I decided to drop by. It turned out to be quite small, at least the toys area, but we did find this big Caterpillar dump truck. I’ve been eyeing this particular model for some time so when Jeanne showed the littlest hint of interest, I went for it :D Next up, a Caterpillar excavator!

Messages Beta

Messages is the instant messaging application of the upcoming OS X Mountain Lion. It is essentially iMessage for the Mac. It also integrates with FaceTime and includes AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk, and Jabber clients. But the significant thing about it is it expands iMessage from iPhone, iPod Touches, and iPads to the Mac. That’s a potentially huge bump in the number of users on Apple’s messaging framework and more reason to use Apple products.

I Love Daddy

When I got home from work today, Jeanne hugged me and declared “I love daddy.” Things like this makes going home early and spending time with Jeanne an absolute joy. She probably will forget (I don’t remember much of when I was 1 to 3 years old), but they mean a lot to me and I will remember and cherish them.

Instant Valentine’s Day Dinner

I prepared a quick Valentine’s Day dinner when I got home from work. First, to keep her busy, I gave Jeanne a new coloring and set of crayons (for which she hugged me and told me “I love you, dad!”). Then it was off to the kitchen. For the main dish, I made Lemon-Rosemary Roast Chicken (which I’ve written about before so I won’t put it here again). For the side-dish, I surrounded the sides of the chicken on the roasting pan (side-dish literally) with marble potatoes. I then popped everything into the oven. For the salad, I got pre-packed leafy vegetables and Italian dressing. Tossed everything into a bowl, added some tomato slices, drizzled with pre-mixed Italian dressing, tossed, and served! Finally, washed everything down with Asti (a birthday gift from Paul and Ann, thanks guys!). C’est la vie!
