2007 May 27 La Mesa Ecopark, Quezon City, Metro Manila

_IGP1454Went with some officemates to the La Mesa Ecopark in Quezon City. It’s supposed to be a photo shoot but either cameras are unavailable or the photographers aren’t so it became more of a picnic with a bit of photo shooting thrown in.

La Mesa Ecopark is a project of ABS-CBN‘s Bantay Kalikasan, an environment advocacy group who essentially created the park from jungle. The resulting park is an oasis of vegetation in the midst of the sprawling city. It has a saltwater pool, a flower terrace, an amphitheater, a butterfly trail, an orchidarium, a fishing area, a big picnic area, a biking area, and a boating area among others.

The park is well organized and managed. There was just a bit of a hassle getting our DSLRs inside (but not point-and-shoots wth?!?). It was also a bit crowded when we went but otherwise it was nice. We strolled through the various areas taking pictures. We were done by late afternoon. The place is not that big and a day is about sufficient.

The Ugly Duckling

There’s this duckling
Who thought she’s ugly
She won’t turn into a beautiful swan
That only happens in fairy tales
And maybe reality shows
But she doesn’t have to
For within and without
Though she doesn’t see
She’s already beautiful

Basic Photography Workshop

I finally completed a 5-day basic photography workshop conducted by Jo Avila. The workshop covers the basics of theories, principles, composition, studio lighting, PhotoShop, color management, and guerilla shooting. The workshop was good. Definitely recommended for beginners. Some of the things I already knew but still I learned quite a lot.

Of course nothing really beats experience: familiarizing yourself with your gear and taking lots and lots of pictures. And that’s exactly what I intend to do next.

ISO 9001:2000 Certification

Today, was the certification audit of the company. I had spent the weekend preparing myself for it: studying the standard, documented policies, and procedures. Yet when the day started it was still nerve-wracking. There’s always that lingering thought that you forgot something. There’s the fear that something, somewhere is going to give. I was tense throughout the day but tried not to show it.

As the day went by and the audit progressed, we checked the results with the auditees. As we ticked off the audit areas, we realized that we could actually make it. And this was confirmed by the auditors during the closing meeting when they informed us that they found only a few minor non-conformities and are recommending the company for certification. Everyone cheered and clapped. It was such a relief. After over a year, our efforts finally came to fruit.

I would like to thank everyone for all their effort without which this certification would not have been possible: To AJA Philippines, our certifying body. To ECCI, our official consultant. To top guys PG, PS, and JFP, for their never-ending support. To the department heads Evelyn, Maribeth, Celia, Ellen, Eddy, and Ike who along with their respective departments worked hard to meet the certification requirements. To Mayet, our QM Assistant and Document Controller, I know your heart is in creatives and yet you did what you have to do and you did it very well. And finally and most importantly, to Carol, our internal Lead Auditor and ISO 9001 consultant, she is the woman behind our QMS.

Starcraft II Announced

Hell, it’s about time! Starcraft II has been announced! Jessie sent me a link to Starcraft II. I’ve seen the link before and back then it was just a redirect to the Blizzard website. So I thought it still the same. But NO! Instead there’s now a full website for the next installment of Starcraft. To be sure, the new game will have big shoes to fill. But from how it looks in the website, it looks to be a potentially worthy successor.
